Um salvamento simples | Simple rescue

IMG_5845

A days work in a fireman life, is always incertain. There's always someone getting in some kind of trouble, that end's up needing somekind of help.

Today, by the end of the morning, José and Carlos got a call to rescue a group of biologists that were having a walk and to reach a special and rare specimen of a plant, somehow manage to find themselfes in the bottom of a gulch, without being able to get back up again.

The rescue became a very simple one and in no time the ten participants were safe and sound. The last person to be rescued, was Clara, the lider of the group. Brunette, with big green eyes, the girl reached the fireman very upset with her lack of sense, in allowing the group risked so much. Her cheeks were pink witch heighlighted the green of her eyes, and, while telling the firemen how it all happened she kept rolling up her sleeves and putting them back down once again. The girl was really nervous!

José and Carlos took a glimpse at one another, and smiled. They were used to these nonsense situations. Despite the simple rescue, they also took a deep breath, relieved and in no time the three of them were laughing with the all situation.

A caçada | The hunt

IMG_6190

It's been a few days since a big grey bear is getting closer to the camp. The animal must be starving as it continues do get closer and closer. The indians are worried and afraid of what the bear might do if and when it enters the camp.

The situation is serious enought to summon up the tribe council. By the totem pole the sorcerer lightened the fire and added some herbs that invite do peace and serenity and keep a nice warm smell in the air. After two long hours, the council reached a decision: the bear had to be killed.

Indians don't kill an animal for no reason. Not even a bear. But this bear must be very old or very sick for not be able to feed itself anymore and need to came closer to the camp to find out some food.

Kayke e Aukanaii, the bravest hunters of the tribe were chosen to the task and left camp early in the morning. The tribe waits their return to devote the bear to the spirits by the pole. Bear's skin will be turned in to clothing. It's meat will feed the tribe and it's bones will be pocessed to became tools and toys for the children.

Good hunt Kayke e Aukanaii!

Finalmente neve | Snow at last

IMG_6185

Finally snowed up in hills!

Grandma Matilde lives on the bottom of the hills and love to welcome in her home her grandchildren and their friends that invade her house for a few days in this time of the year for the tradicional playing in the snow.

Every year, the children await grandmas call to tell them that snow had fallen. Finally the phonecall came, and by tomorrow afternoon they should be with their feet buried in the snow.

Grandma welcomes every one with arms wide open. The smell of warm cake is filling the house as well as other grandmother cuddles: a warm fire place, quince jam and hot chocolate.

The kids don't want to wast time and in one second are ready and leaving the house running to the snow, taking with them sleigth, skis and snowboards that grandma rescued from the attic, preparing the arrival of the children.

In no time, the hills are covered with castles, igloos, forts and snowman every where. But most of all the hills are covered by the children laughter.

Só azar | Nothing but bad luck

IMG_5815.JPG

It was one of that days that nothing goes right.

It all began early in the morning: gas run out when Marta was in the shower. She had to leave the bathtub and put it on again. Then, while she was answering her best friend´s call that was complaining hard about her life, she burned her french toasts for the breakfast, so, with no time to make some more, she left for work starving.

The morning in work was exausting and by the lunch time Marta was crumpy, still starving and just wanted to leave to get back home.

By the end of the day, the girl manage to take a breath and smile on her way home. Suddently, by triyng to get away of a dog, a driver hit Marta, that was crossing the street in the cross walk.

The paramedic say that she might not have anything broken, but just in case, they will carry her to the hospital, to make shure of that because the hit and the fall were a bit uggly.

So, the day ended like it started: with no luck and at the phone with her best friend. This time was Marta complainnig about her life to her girlfriend.

Caravana | Caravan

IMG_5510

A caravana traz consigo o cheiro a animais, a suor e a fumo.

There it is: the caravan just arrived to the market town!

It took countless days to cover the most distant villages of the desert, in search of the most beautifull pottery, the tastiest tee, or the most exquisite tapestry. There were countless days in witch they camped in the meedle of nowhere, as soon as the sun started to go down, bearing the cold of the night with a nice warm fire, listening lute player.

The caravan brings with it the smell of animals, sweat and smoke. It brings some tarnished skin from the sun and thirsty mouths longing for a cold drink. It brings roughened hair by wind and sand, but it also brings big smiles that shown the happiness of freedom only felt by those that may scroll fantastic worlds, without being tied to anything.

Tomorrow they will exhibit their relic and doggedly bargain for each one. But for now, they must rest, not before taking care of the animals that bravelly resisted and endured each day. Finally, after that, it's time to take a long shower, eat a fresh meat meal, drink until all the thirst became a bad memorie and sleep in a soft confy bed, in a long long time.

Making of #2

Realmente #hapinessisabluebox!

Took these photos in a cold cloudy sunday. Didn't expected much of them as the light was poor and the cold day asked for a cosy sofa and a book to read, not to go outside playing playmobil. Despite the bad conditions i grabbed some clicks and as soon as i started, i thought that i should've brought some more playmos.

Really #hapinessisabluebox!

Visita de estudo #7 | Field trip #7

IMG_5803

A nova vida da Pintarolas | Spots new life

IMG_5862

A Misty pertence à doce Joana.

With brushed glossy horsehair, Misty follows her great friend Pintarolas. They both live at the Pony Ranch, the most busy equestrian center around and their stables are side by side.

Pintarolas was a jumping horse, but after a pretty ugly fall, one of her legs was seriously damage and problably she will never jump again. After a hard time overcoming these fact, Sara, Pintarolas's owner resigned with the end of their jumping career and now they are enjoying themselfs by taking long walks as Pintarolas is still a strong horse that likes challenges. These long walks seems feeted for them.

Misty belongs to sweet Joana. She is calm, but strong and robust. In Pony Ranch's the story of Misty and Pintarolas is told countless times. After falling, and when arriving to Pany Ranch, Pintaloras was barely able to stood in her feet as she was frightened and in pain, and she didn't let anyone touch her to help her get into her stable. In that time, Misty arrived and stood up by Pintarola's side, protecting her not to fall, and helping her into the stable.

Those who saw this happening barely believed it, and this story is becoming a legend.

Época de incêndios | Fire season

IMG_5839

Prevention can be a very boring task, but actually it is most needed and it's importance is uncoutable, specially when the fire season is close.

Marco and Rui start early their job. They carefully scroll the map area asigned to them and decide where the vegetation needs to be cut, they establish where should be the firebreaks. They also talk to people, clarifiyng when it's the right time to make backyard burnings, giving advices and sensitize population to the importance of maintaining their lands clean of vegetation.

Some days, they have with them the clearence teams. In these days, the guys manage field work, by establishing intervention prioritys, and while these jobs goes, they seize the time to do some forest registration.

It´s a job that seems endless, but the truth is that, step by step, the forest is becaming cleaner, much more organized and safer from it's worst and treacherous enemy: fire.
