Summer and spring are great to shoot. Any walk at the end of the day, even in the middle of the week serves two purposes: escape from daily routine and take pictures. In these days it's mandatory to bring one or two clicks in the pocket!

The heiress also takes part in these walks and shoots, making funny moments with me!

The stories of the day: igor the pickpocket is caught and a girl with no style for ballet.

The tribe has a new chief. Fearfull-Panter was the lider in the past 30 years. His expirience and wisdom helped the tribe to overcame so many challenges, sticking together and prosper. Unfortunatly his life come to an end, and he lives among the great spirits now.

Brave-Deer was elected new chief, after many hours of tribe's conseil. Guied by the sourcerer, every indian had a chance to participate in the conseil: man, woman, old and young, even the children, as long as they could speak. Everyone could be there and take part in this moment.

This is how Brave-Deer realized that so many people thought he was the best choice. Weighted, assertive, but also brave, fearless and firm in his belifs. Those were the reasons to be chosen to be the new tribe's lider. Tonight, in a special ceremony, his name will be carved in the tribe's totem pole.

Novo guerreiro | New warrior

IMG_9085

Tonight, Vigilant-Meerkat, will be nominated the most recent warrior of the tribe. He overcome every challenge imposed to all 15 year old boys, and later on, he will put his shiel on tribe's service, as a warrior.

He came to ask spirit prottection to Awê, the tribe's sourcerer. If the spirits are willing to protect Vigilant-Meerkat, he will be able to participate in the ceremony tonight.

Awê will give him a powerfull potion, that will immerse him in the spirit world, from where he should bring a message. His first words when waking up, will be vital to know whether the spirits are with him or not.

After swallowing the misture, Vigilant-Meerkat fallen into a very agitated deep sleep, from where he took very long to came out, causing some concern to the wizard. Finally, after a long time in trance, he woke up, grabbed sourcerer's hands and said: "Awê, in my dream, a great eagle followed me, quite high in the sky, wherever i went!"

And Awê knew that Vigilant-Meerkat had the spirits protection.

Passeio de Domingo | Sunday walk

IMG_9113

The firs day of Spring has come and it was impossible to keep children in the house. The sunny day called for a walk that the kids had been demanding since morning. After school homework done, finally the mother called them to go out. Two big smiles lightened those small faces and there they went jumping around down the street, towards the river.

By the water, so many other people were strolling around too, smiling at those shy rays of sunshine promessing a very near Spring. The kids asked for a ballon and ice cream, of course. Ricardo, the ice cream man, knows that Eva likes strawberry and that Diogo preferes caramel. He knows how important is to learn about costumers taste!

This horse steam thing torned apart our prairie. It makes such a loud noise, it makes our air smelly and it destroys animal paths. This white man doesn't care about the consequences about he's actions!

In no time, their infected houses will be everywhere, and they will leave their garbage wherever they go. The animals leave behind their footprint trail, the white man leaves behind his dirtiness.

Some animals will learn not to came here, but many will succumb at this thing speed. Us, the indians, will maintain the distance as long as we can, but i fear that we will to succumb before this ruthless with power: some of us will leave in tiny territories, being urged to end, but many of us will fall under the white man traps: fire arms, smoke, drinks or even money.

Hard and challenging times, for us, but especially for Mother Nature!

A minha terra | My hometown

IMG_9139

You know, my grandson, i was born in that house, the one with the biggest chimney. Born and raised there.

I used to run everywhere barefoot. Shoes were only for the mass and school. In that time, we didn´t know what candys were, until the summer, when a friend of ours came from Germany bringing "rubbers", the gums that you love. Beside that, we only had some disgusting musty cookies, the only thing we could bought from António's coffe shop, with our few coins.

We had almost no meat, so we all learned to catch cuttlefish and we knew how to cook it in one thousand ways. We were always with our feet in the water: playing with the crabs, catching bait to sell to weekend fishers or bathing in the boat ramp. We spend all day in the street, only returning home when someone yelled our name, usually when the night already settled in.

I grew up and as i was a good student, i went study and work far away from here. I sighed every day for the wind that mess my clothes, for the smell of the tide that mixed up in my hair and for the balance of the boats where we used to play.

My grandon, this is my hometown, and yours. I hope you are so happy here, as i was!

Avó Quicas | Grandma Quicas

IMG_8952

Grandma Quicas has five grandchildren and all, without exception stayed with her from six to twelve months, when they finnaly went to school. That´s why the last years were a rustle in grandma's life. She confesses that  she now enjoys very much take her afternoon snack quietly, but that the loves when one or even more of the kids come by, asking for her delicious hot chocolate with butter cookies.

When the children get to noisy or unseteled, she usually kicked them out to the street, to play outdoors, leaving her with a all kitchen to clean, but at least that way, she could do it more quietly.

Today the kids got together to take a picture that will be their present for grandma, with the following dedication: "To the coolest grandmother that makes the most delicious hot chocolate in the universe!"
