I'm so lucky, cause i live by a river, where i can find so many spots for many fantastic pirate stories, whether it's a pirate invasion, a betrayal story, or a persevering one.

O meu irmão gémeo | My twin brother

20200726_181731

I found this picture in the middle of a book that i took to read from my granny's house. I wasn´t able to recognize myself, not even the boy next to me, despite granny firmly said it was so. I doubted her and her 95 years old, so i went to find thay out.

Twin, my twin brother!! Unfortunetly tragically deceased that day in the bay, when everybody trusted that someone was taking a look in us. They say that problably i saw what happened, as they found me staring at the water like a statue. They say that i didn't spoke for three days, and that when i did it, not only i never spoke about what had happened, neither i never spoke about my brother again.

In those days, psicologic support didn't existed and everybody dealed with their problems their own way. So, the all family adopted my kind of way of dealing with it, shutting up his existence. From my brother only survived a box full of photographs, some clothes and a couple of toys, that my mother sord of hided in my granny's house. I have the box with me now. I´m gonna take it and give a big big hug to my mother.

Até ao moinho | Till the windmil

20200822_184238

It’s the kid’s favourite walk. Nothing keeps them more happy, than enjoying the end of the afternoon take a walk at the windmill with grandfather, before home, after school. In warmer days, they even get an ice cream.

Is in these moments that grandfather knows his grnchildren's the best friends names, wich subject they like the most and what they like to play more in the recess. What was the biggest chalenge they faced that day: a word to hard to spell, or a fight in the playground.

There, between runs, games in the sand, lips filled with leted ice cream and wet feet, the kids forget about their duties and responsabilities and they are what they are: children.

Traído | Betrayed

IMG_5454

- Coragem meus bravos homens! Íamos dividir as coisas, tudo certinho e no fim aquele jacaré vagabundo trocou-me as voltas e escondeu-o!

- Courage my brave man! For one thousand tides, if i ain’t going to find out where that little devil hided the booty that he stole from me! He should be turning in the grave where i put him, for knowing that i am this close to find it! Who would’ve known such a betrayal like this! We were going to split it in half, and in the end that bastard hide it from me! You know what? I didn’t gave him enough stabs… I should’ve drawned him slowly… or feed him to the sharks, little by little! Let’s go, pirates, we are close of felling that arch and tonight we will drink as much as we can!!

Lopes, o marinheiro | Lewis, the sailor men

IMG_5443

Lewis is one of the most handy sailors from the course. He uses the compass and sextant like no one. He climbs to the higher mast like a monkey. He spends a lot of time in the crow’s nest, without fear or worries. And he has a special sensibility to understand subtle changes in the wind or in the sea.

Lewis’s problem are the flags from the international maritime navigation code. The boy confuses “M” with “V”, or “R” with “X”. And it isn’t easy for him to combine flags to complete messages.

He as been studying hard and he even asks his friends to help him study so he can pass the final test, three days ahead. Will Lewis became a sailor, or what?

Piratas no porto | Pirates in the harbour

IMG_5448

Today, the harbour filled with pirate ships, and trough the streets you can ear loud laughter, the sound of pat on the backs and greeting shoutings from those who have not seen each other for years. Friendships are renewed, old quarrels are solved with wirst fights, more or less obscure businesses are firmed and beer mugs pass by, from hand to hand, as a river.

Unless you are a pirate, just a few will have courage to be in the streets near the harbour, that are filled with man with ambling walk as they have forgotten how to walk on solid ground.

Groceries shops and the bars will be runned out of their products and every room of the existing lodges will be occupied with man thirsty of a woman’s body.

Tomorrow, pirate ships will leave, leaving behing a trace of dirt, the smell of beer that will only disapeer in a couple of days and a strange silence that eventually will fade away, in a few hours, replaced by the natural hustle as the harbour takes it’s normal activity.

Pose na neve | Snow pose

IMG_2428

The pose is only for the fotography, as at the first day in the snow, no one masters skis, ski poles or snowboards. The falls and unbalenced moves have been constant, as well as the laughs and the attempts of helping others, wich usually ends up in more falls.

Everybody say that is the way it goes: the first day is terrible, the second one you start to get the hang of it and at the third one, if you can move from all of the sored muscles, you actually start to see results.

The family is confidente that these will be some fun days. Not so confident if someone will get the hang of it!

O “Bote Negro” foi capturado | “Black Ship” was captured

20200726_181216

- Bravo, meus tenentes! E o capitão deles, apanharam-no?

Preparem-me um navio. Seguimos de imediato para lá!

- Captain, here’s one of the rescued arches from “Black Ship”, the pirate ship that we captured a few days ago! Captain, you don’t imagine what those bastards had in the hold! There are several arches just like these filled with coins and jewelry! Captain, they even had cocoa!

- Well done lieutenants! And their captain, did you got him? He as beeen abble to escape right when i’m about to get him, from months now!

- Hummm… I’m sorry captain, no one saw him… Some say that he jumped over board, and others say that he exploded with a cannon shot…

- For Neptune!! I’m sure he is hidden inside that ship…. Or he is mixed up in the middle of the crew! I don’t want that ship docked anywhere. And don’t want anything any ship docked at him! I will personaly go in there to have a search in the ship and inspect every member of that filthy crew! May the living seas take me at once, if i don’t get that crap of a pirate this time! Get me a ship!
