A matriarca | The matriarch

Esta é a última fotografia que temos da avó. A avó foi um mulherão, sem nunca perder a delicadeza tão característica que possuía. Quem não a conhecesse, diria que ela seria provavelmente uma velhinha frágil, de quem seria necessário cuidar, como se fosse de cristal. Mas não podiam estar mais enganados. A avó era dona de uma vontade indómita que lhe estava entranhada nos ossos e a fortalecia de dentro para fora.

Tão depressa a avó acorria a fazer um parto difícil de uma das vacas da quinta, como salvava um ouriço com poucos dias de vida, das dentuças do Lord, o cão de guarda da quinta. Era a avó que exigia a presença de todos, na grande casa da quinta no Natal, e da cozinha, qual general, coordenava os trabalhos de confecção de toda a espécie de iguarias e era ela que não dispensava a presença de todos os netos em sua casa, uns dias no Verão. 

A avó será insubstituível, mas deixou os seus genes bem marcados na Camila, que herdou o seu espírito peculiar e de todos os netos, aquela que será provavelmente a próxima grande matriarca da família.

This is the last picture that we have from grandma. She was a hell of a woman, without ever losing a delicacy that was so characteristic of her. Those who not knew her might say that she was a fragile, and must be taken care of. But they could not be more wrong. Grandma was the owner of a indomit will and spirit, that was ingrained in her bones and and that make her strong from inside out.

In a minute grandma could be helping one of the cows of the farm in a difficult labor, and in the next, she might be saving a newborn hedgehog from Lord's mouth, the dog guard of the farm. It was grandma that demanded the presence of the all family for Christmas in the farm's big house, and from the kitchen, like a general, she coordinated the making of all sorts of delicacies. And it was her that recquired a few days with all of her grandchildren in the farm, every Summer. 

Grandma will be irreplaceable, but she left her genes in Camila, that inherited her peculiar spirit, and from all of the grandchildren, the one that most likely will be the next matriarch of the family.
