As renas do avô | Grandpa's reindeer

O avô cria renas desde sempre. O seu pai já as criava, e antes dele, o seu avô. O avô costuma dizer que as renas dele são especiais. E hoje, a alguns dias do Natal, eu descobri porquê!

O avô está a ficar velhote e a força nas pernas está a faltar-lhe. Em breve já não será capaz de cuidar das suas adoradas renas e por isso hoje ele chamou-me ao estábulo e depois de me falar sobre cada uma delas, com uma lágrima ao canto do olho, disse-me:

- Rita, minha neta, bem sabes que as forças me estão a começar a faltar, por isso está na altura de te revelar um segredo!

- Que segredo, avô? – inquiri, a pensar que ele me ia dizer o que tinha para oferecer à avó no Natal.

- Rita, toma atenção, por favor. Agora que me começam a faltam as forças, o futuro das renas do Pai Natal está nas tuas mãos.

- Como assim, avô? - perguntei eu, sem perceber nada!

- As nossas adoradas renas, na verdade, não são nossas. São do Pai Natal. São as nossas renas que puxam o trenó do Pai Natal, na Noite de Natal – disse ele.

- Isso é verdade, avô? - duvidei eu.

- Sim, minha querida neta. É a mais pura das verdades. Nós cuidamos delas o ano inteiro: escolhemos as melhores e tratamos delas o melhor que sabemos. Depois, alguns dias antes do Natal, os elfos do Pai Natal levam-nas para elas se prepararem para a Grande Noite e no dia seguinte, no Dia de Natal, devolvem-nas para que continuemos a cuidar delas durante o resto do ano.

- Não é possível, avô! - dizia eu incrédula.

O avô riu-se do meu espanto, agarrou-me na mão e levou-me para o pé de uma das renas. Falou-lhe ao ouvido de mansinho e para meu espanto, logo o seu nariz que se iluminou de encarnado! Eu tinha a rena Rodolfo no meu estábulo e mal podia acreditar!

E o avô disse-me ainda:

- Rita, de agora em diante, a tua missão é tratares das renas do Pai Natal, junto com o teu pai, que te vai ensinar tudo o que precisas de saber. E daqui a muitos anos, serás tu a passar esse testemunho aos teus filhos. Tudo para que mantenhamos viva a magia do Natal! Posso contar contigo?

- Claro que sim, avô! - foi tudo o que consegui dizer!

Grandpa raises reindeer since ever. His father raise them too and before him his grandfather too. Granpa always says his reindeer are special. And today, a few days for Christmas, i found out why!

Grandpa i getting old and he’s lacking strength to care for the animals. Soon he will not be able to do that, só today, he call me to the stable and after telling me something about each one of the animals, he told me:

- Rita, my sweet child, you know i’m not feeling good lately, só it’s time to tell you a secret!

- What secret grandpa?- i asked, thinking he was going to tell me the gift he bought to grandma.

- Pay attention, please. Now that i’m having trouble doing my job, the future of Santa Claus’s reindeer is in your hands.

- How is that so? - i asked not understandin a bit he was saying.

- Our belove reindeer, aren’t ours. They’re Santa Claus’s reindeer. This are the one’s who pull Santa sleight on the Christmas night – he said.

- That is really true? - i doubted.

- Yes, my grandchild. It’s true indeed. We take care of them all year around: we choose the best and take care of them the best we can. A few days before Christmas, Santa’s elves take them and prepare them for the big night. In the Christmas Day, they are returned, to be with us the rest of the year.

- That is not possible, grandpa! - said i in disbelieve.

Grandpa laught at my astonishment, grabbeb my hand and took me to the stable, near one of the reindeer. He whispered something to the animal and in an instant, the reindeer nose lighted up in red. I had Rudolph the reindeer in front of me and couln’d believe it!

And grandpa said:

- Rita, from now on, your mission is to take care of the reindeer with your father. He will teach you everything you will need to know. In many years, it will be you that will pass this testimony to your sons our grandsons. Everything to make Christmas magic alive! Can i count on you?

- Of course you can, grandpa! - was all i could say!
