O Avô Matias apenas corta a barba entre o Natal e o Ano Novo. No resto do ano deixa-a crescer livremente e no dia de Natal, veste-se a rigor e sai à rua a distribuir alguns presentes.
A garotada do bairro já o conhece e alinha na tradição. Depois do almoço e sempre que o tempo o permite, os míudos vêem para a rua e recebem os presentes do Avô Matias: a bola preferida que ficou presa no telhado do prédio e que ninguém conseguiu ir buscar, os carrinhos recuperados da sarjeta, a boneca adorada a quem o avô conseguiu arranjar as pernas, ou um carrinho de rolamentos que o senhor construiu para todos.
Grandfather Matias only cuts his beard of between Christmas and New Year. In the rest of the year he let it grow, and on Christmas day, he dresses up and comes out to the street giving away some presents.
The children of the neighbourhood already know it, and play along in the tradition, receiving the ball that was caught in the roof and that no one couldn't get it anymore, little toy cars that tragically fallen into the gutter, the beloved doll witch broken legs grandfather Matias fixed, or a roller car builded by him.
