O futuro | The future
O Marquês acabou de morrer. E eis finalmente a geração que se lhe seguirá.
Terão um trabalho duro pela frente. O Marquês era um homem muito dominador, pouco dado a ouvir outras opiniões e muito pouco disponível para abdicar do seu poder e do controlo do património e dos negócios da família. Nem mesmo em favor dos seus 3 filhos, por quem pouco se interessou, mal percebeu que nenhum teria um carácter idêntico ao seu. Os miúdos, mas sobretudo a mãe, cedo perceberam que não valeria a pena confrontar o pai, pois teriam muito mais a perder com isso.
Assim, e contrariamente ao que era costume, os miúdos foram educados pela mãe, e habituaram-se a fazerem-se invisíveis perante o pai, de modo a evitar-lhe acessos de mau humor desnecessários e a não se fazerem notar, para que não caísse sobre eles a atenção do pai e com isso um chorrilho de críticas. Aprenderam a esperar.
Mas agora eis chegado o momento deles. A morte do pai exige-lhes que assumam agora as rédeas dos negócios da família. É imperativo que o façam, sob pena de perderem tudo o que, apesar de tudo, foi conquistado.
Eles são o futuro! Serão capazes?
The Lord just died. And this is the generation that will follow.
They will have a tough job ahead. The Lord was a dominat men, that listened nobody and not willing to let go of the power and control over the family patrimony or business. Not even in behalf of his children, for whom he had no interest or cared about, as soon as he realized that neither of them had a caracther like his. The kids, but mostly their mom, sonn new that they had no advantage in facing him. They had so much more to loose.
So, the kids were raised and educated almost exclusevly by their mother, and they get used to be invisible in the presence of the Lord, to avoid his bad temper, and criticism about anything. They´ve learned to wait.
But now is the time. Their father's death demands their action and their stand in the family affairs. They must do it and they must be succeeded. Otherwise they'll loose anything that as been accomplished.
They are the future. Will they make it?
