O tio Leopoldo | Uncle Leopold
O tio Leopoldo foi hoje condecorado pelo rei e escolheu-me para o acompanhar. Disse ele que podia ser que arranjasse um príncipe só para mim! É um divertido o tio! Fomos recebidos no salão nobre do palácio com um pequeno beberete, onde um músico tocava piano, enquanto aguardávamos que a cerimónia iniciasse. O tio queria que eu arranjasse um príncipe, mas olhem que o músico é que me encheu as medidas! Fez-se silêncio no salão quando o rei entrou, e ele fez questão de cumprimentar todos os que iriam ser distinguidos neste dia. Achei de um bom gosto extraordinário. E também achei que o rei apertou a mão do tio Leopoldo um pouco mais tempo do que aos restantes e que o olhou profundamente nos olhos, como se estivesse a confirmar alguma coisa. Penso que o rei talvez tenha planos mais ambiciosos para o tio. Veremos.
Depois da cerimónia, tomámos um pequeno lanche nos jardins do palácio. E que maravilha de jardins, estes! O tio Leopoldo foi entretanto chamado para uma qualquer conversa importante e confidencial e o músico que tinha tocado piano antes da cerimónia, materializou-se de imediato junto a mim, e perguntou se me poderia fazer companhia até ao regresso do tio.
Uncle Leopold was decorated by the king today and chose me to accompany him. He said I’d might find a prince just for me! Uncle Leopold is a funny guy! We were welcomed in the palace's main hall with a small drink, where a musician played the piano, while we waited for the ceremony to begin. My uncle wanted me to have a prince, but the musician was the one who made me blush! There was silence in the hall when the king entered, and he made a point of greeting everyone who would be distinguished on this day. I thought it was from a extraordinary good taste. And I also thought that the king shook Uncle Leopold's hand a little longer than the others and that he looked him deeply in the eyes, as if he was confirming something. I think the king may have more ambitious plans for uncle. We'll see.
After the ceremony, we had a small snack in the palace gardens. And what wonderful gardens these are! Uncle Leopold was called in the meantime for some important and confidential conversation and the musician who had played the piano before at the ceremony immediately materialized next to me and asked if he could keep me company until uncle returned.
