Prontas para o baile | Ready for the ball

O baile começa ao por-do-sol e as meninas estiveram toda a tarde a fazer e a desfazer penteados. A colocar e a trocar adereços. E a maquilharem-se de várias maneiras, para escolher a melhor.

As criadas estão exaustas de tanto andar de lá para cá e de cá para lá, a acudir aos caprichos e ideias das meninas e ainda têm pela frente o pior: arrumar todos os adereços, joías, pincéis e boiões de maquilhagem, que as meninas alegremente espalharam por todo o lado, na ânsia de ficarem sempre mais bonitas.

Elas vão terminar o dia, tranquilamente a beber um chá no pequeno jardim das traseiras, destinado aos empregados e dormirão cedo, para se levantarem de madrugada, quando as meninas chegarem do baile, a precisar de ajuda para se despirem e desmaquilharem, cansadas de uma noite inteira de diversão.
