Estou há três semanas nesse pedaço de rocha cinzenta e inóspita a ver o nosso pequeno planeta a milhares de quilómetros de distância e só consigo pensar o quanto ele é simplesmente magnífico. Há água, gelo e fogo. Há animais e plantas de todos os tamanhos, feitios e cores. Há montanhas, planícies, vales e praia. Há pessoas amarelas, encarnadas, castanhas e brancas. Há tanta cor e tanta vida, tanta diversidade junta, que é difícil acreditar, como é possível tanta diversidade coexistir.
Por favor cuidem do nosso planeta, protejam-no e não o deixem perder a riqueza que tem. Sei bem do que falo: daqui de cima, não avisto mais sítio nenhum para onde possamos ir!
I'm stuck in this inhospitable piece of grey rock for three weeks, watching our little planet thousands of quilometers far away and all i can think about is how magnificent it is. It as watre, ice and fire. It as animals and plants in all kind of shapes, sizes and colours. It as mountains, flat lands, valleys and beaches. There is yellow people, red, brown and white people. There is so much colour, life and diversity together, that it's hard to believe how it's possible such a coexistence.
Please, take care of our planet, it must be protected and it cannot loose it's richness. I know what i am talking about: uphere, there's no where else to go!
Os nervos estão à flor da pele. O coração segue acelerado e ainda nem entraram no foguetão que os expulsará do planeta. Todos os poros transpiram de ansiedade e é impossível fazer parar o cérebro cujos pensamentos voam mil vezes mais depressa do que eles voarão daqui a pouco. As pupilas estão dilatadas e mesmo assim, não deverão chegar para receber a imensidão do mundo novo que estão prestes a conhecer.
A equipa da missão permitiu que cada um dos astronautas levasse consigo um pequeno objecto de conforto, para os momentos mais exigentes. O Rafael trouxe uma chucha do filho, o Ivo a bola com que costuma brincar com o seu cão e o Joca, uma fotografia da mãe e da irmã. Cada um tem o seu objecto num bolso especial do fato e sem nenhum deles querer, é para lá que as suas mãos se dirigem, no começo da contagem decrescente: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
The moment is nerve racking. The heart goes speedy and they didn't even entered the rocket that will kick them out of the planet. All pores sweat in anxiety and it's impossible to stop the brain whose thoughts are flying one thousand times faster that they are about to in a short while. The pupils are dilated and even so, they will not be large enough to see the all new world they are about to discover.
The mission team aloud that each astronaut brought a small confort object for the most demanding moments. Rafael chose one of his son's pacifiers, Ivo pick up the ball with wich he plays with his dog and Joca chose a picture from his mother and sister. Each one as these objects in the space suit, in a special pocket, and without any of them noticed, their hands find the way to that pocket, as soon as the countdown started: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!
A missão dura há 45 longos e duros dias. Os dias são passados a fazer inúmeras verificações para garantir o correcto funcionamento da exígua estação espacial onde se encontram, mas também a fazer todo um vasto conjunto de experiências, que exigem imensos registos e muito controlo e rigor.
Portanto, têm sido uns dias bem desafiantes, tendo em conta que no espaço, é impossível simplesmente sair porta fora para desanuviar ou descontrair um bocadinho.
Finalmente hoje, a missão é aquela pela qual tanto esperaram e se prepararam. É o ponto alto desta expedição: o desfiladeiro Delta43. De acordo com a cartografia, esperam encontrar um tipo de solo diferente e quem sabe, algum vestígio de vida. O nível de ansiedade e expectativa são enormes!
The mission is lasting for 45 long hard days. The days are spent doing inumerous cheks to maintain the tiny space station working properly, but also doing all kind of experiments that require lots of records and carefull control and precision.
So, the guys have been having some challenging days, considering that in space you can't simply walk out the door to spread out your legs and clear your mind.
Finally today it's time for the big mission. The one they all waited and prepared so hard. It's the highlight of this expedition: cannyon delta43. According to the cartography, they expect to find a new kind of soil, and who knows, maybe some traces of life. The level of anxiety and expectation are huge!
A recolha de amostras decorre a bom ritmo e de acordo com o planeado. Joan chegou à estação espacial há dois dias e já está perfeitamente adaptado ao ambiente da estação e a toda a equipa. Mal podia esperar para começar a extensíssima lista de tarefas a seu cargo.
Há todo um conjunto de tarefas absolutamente aborrecidas, como fazer inventários, contabilizar peças, fazer inúmeras verificações, que têm que ser realizadas. Isto serve, não só, para manter os astronautas ocupados, mas para assegurar que tudo está a funcionar devidamente na estação e evitar qualquer tipo de avaria.
O Joan começou bem. Ao segundo dia já está na "rua" a recolher amostras de vários tipos, que terá depois de catalogar, estudar e apresentar variadíssimos relatórios com os resultados das suas experiências.
A primeira coisa que fez ao chegar à estação espacial, foi tirar uma selfie no seu local de trabalho e remetê-la por email para o seu professor de ciências do 6º ano. Numa das primeiras aulas de laboratório desse ano, o Joan deixou cair um erlenmeyer que o professor depositara nas suas mãos enquanto explicava uma experiência à turma. Todos se riram quando o professor disse enfurecido: "São poucos aqueles que têm alma de cientista. Obviamente não és um deles!"
Sample gathering is at a good pace and it goes according to plan. Joan arrive to the space station a couple of days ago and he is already adapted to it and to the crew. He couldn't wait to start the long list of cores that he has at his responsability.
There is a bunch of tasks absolutely boring, such as inventories, counting pieces, and checking countless verifications, that had to be done. It keeps the astronauts busy, but also it prevents all kind of malfunctions in the multiple equipment from the station.
Joan started with his right foot. At the second day he's already in the "field" collecting samples that he will have to list, label and classify, and present several reports with the results of his experiencesrst thing
The first thing he done as he arrived the space station was to take a selfie and send it to his 6th grade cience teacher. In one of the cience classes that year, Joan dropped an erlenmeyer witch the teacher gave to him, while he was explaining an experience to the class. They all laughted when teacher furiously sad: " Very few have the skill to be a cientist. Obviously you're not one!"
A reparação do módulo lunar não está a ser nada fácil. A reserva de oxigénio começa a escassear e ainda há algum trabalho até que a reparação esteja concluída. A respiração de Igor acelera, por vezes as mãos tremem-lhe, tem a boca seca e poderia jurar que o coração se mudara para a sua cabeça. Cada batida é quase ensurdecedora.
Todo o treino que teve dá-lhe a certeza de que tudo o que está a fazer está bem feito, por isso resta-lhe acalmar os nervos e obrigar-se a respirar pausadamente até poder regressar à nave para finalmente respirar às golfadas.
A última vez que se sentira assim, tão nervoso, fora há 2 meses atrás, ao pedir a mão de Ekateryna, no Jardim das Estrelas. Nunca como então o coração lhe batera tão forte, ao segurar a mão dela e colocar-lhe no dedo um anel.... E num ápice a reparação ficou concluída. Faltava um simples o-ring para tudo ficar bem. A recordação da sua doce Ekateryna, ajudara-o nesta tarefa.
Agora é voltar para a nave e respirar à vontade.
Lunar module repair it's not being easy. Oxygen is benning to be in a low level and there is a long way till the repair is complete. Igor's breathing is faster, some times is hands tremble, is mouth is dry and he could swear that his heart moved into the back of his head. Each heart beat is deafening.
All the train he had gives him certain that his doing everything right, so he just need to calm down the nerves and breathe slowly. He will be able to breath all the air he wants, soon, when he get's back to the station.
The last time he had felt like this, was two months ago, when he proposed to Ekateryna in the Garden of the Stars. Never his heart had beatten so fast and so strong, like when he hold her hand and put the ring on her finger... And, looks like the repair is done! Memory of his sweet heart helped him on his task.
Now is time to get back to the station and breath as much air possible.
